The nice weather we’ve been having so far this week has been great for planting. So far we have planted sweet corn and garlic, two of my favorite crops.

We started on Monday planting sweet corn. If you read my last post you know that we had some difficulties with the planter when we were planting peas. With the sweet corn we had very few problems, just a couple of adjustments and we were good to go. Probably had something to do with replacing the parts that were giving us trouble last time. Hopefully this means that the planter is good to go for the rest of the season.

Planting Sweet Corn

On Tuesday we were back planting again, this time with the garlic. This also went pretty smoothly and we got a lot of garlic planted. If it all grows we will have lots of garlic to sell and lots of garlic scapes for our garlic scape products.

Today and yesterday we’ve mostly been cleaning and organizing, although I did go out and pick some kale for the store. It was quite a surprise to us that the kale plants from last year have started to grow again this year. Judging by the number of tiny leaves on the plants there will be lots of kale soon.

Provided it doesn’t rain again I will be back out planting more crops soon. I can’t wait for thing to get in the ground and start growing. It’s going to be so nice to have veggies straight out of the field for dinner again.
