Selecting the variety of vegetable to grow is a challenge. It simply depends what market you want to supply. A great deal of time and research dollars are spent by the seed companies to identify and breed for traits that producers can use to achieve their marketing goals.
The characteristics we search for in priority for our market garden are:

- Flavour/Texture
- Desease Tolerance or Resistance
- Insect Resistance
- Shelf life
- Yield
We rely heavily on my seed salesman’s experience as well as my in field observations to make these decisions because new and better varieties are available every year.
